AD CAMPAIGN: PRADA MEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2014 BY ANNIE LEIBOVITZ

Without meaning to throw any palm tree shade (no Prada pun intended), I’ve grown to like this campaign, the same however can’t be said for
Annie Leibovitz delivers a sinister & sullen series of portraits of Hollywood actor & brand favourite Dane DeHaan for the Prada Men’s Spring/Summer 2014 campaign.
Where Meisel’s women’s campaign is full of saturated summer hues & frivolity, Leibovitz saps the life & colour from her subject, leaving a ominous Dane, with his green-grey tinged complexion looking as if he hasn’t had a drop of human blood for weeks. The vibrancy of the prints from the catwalk here are downplayed against a weathered setting to reinforce Muiccia’s twisted view of paradise & tie in again to trend of contrasts, which is becoming increasingly prevalent in the SS14 campaigns.
I’m all for the intensity, lighting, subdued colours & the green/grey filters, but there’s something about Dane which unnerves me. Another male
model actor of the moment would have executed this concept far more convincingly & successfully, don’t you think?
