AD CAMPAIGN: STELLA MCCARTNEY AUTUMN/WINTER 2012 BY MERT ALAS & MARCUS PIGGOTT

With model Natalia Vodianova in tow for the third time, Stella McCartney looked to Mert & Marcus “to create a striking, memorable image that will leap off the page and capture the energy of the collection and Natalia’s personality.” If her personality is pretentious and wooden then yay, they succeeded!
The brand wanted to go for something, which had a “sense of humour”. Whimsical it may be but it’s far from funny. Natalia looks bored sh*tless and the poses are much too contrived.
I like the implementation of the multi coloured acrylic shapes that lift the campaign and sit perfectly with the gorgeous collection of tweed interlaced skirts and tops and the stunning white poplin shirt, but sadly that just isn’t enough to save it.
