COVER: KATY PERRY BY CARTER SMITH, ELLE US, SEPTEMBER 2012
Posted on August 2, 2012
Pop giant Katy Perry covers the september issue of Elle US in a very eye popping cover…yes it makes me want to pop both my eyes out with a spoon…
Now this is nothing personal against Katy but while I appreciate Elle trying to “mix it up” a bit here and there, I cannot be dealing with this teeny bopper style I’ve been seeing of late. With a strapline of “I Can’t Be The Candy Queen Forever” they should have picked a much better, more mature looking image. The beautiful Bottega Veneta dress the singer sports on the cover is made to look like a cheap imitation thanks to that awful purple/black mane, Fuschia background and tacky ying/yang painted nails. In fact if you look really carefully, you can see how badly the star has been cut out and pasted.
Once again we have a cover abundance of text, (I actually like the font and colour), covering most of the image…a blessing in disguise me thinks.
The black and white promotional shot released alongside is better and a close up (minus the open mouth?) would probably have made a much more fitting cover.
