Looks like the drinks are on Mert and Marcus as today Giorgio Armani revealed their autumn/winter ad campaign shot by the duo themselves.

The campaign which stars Aymeline Valade and Simon Nessman is described by the fashion label as “intense, paint-like black and white, with a few sharp and ultra-coloured shots…graphic poses and an ageless elegance marking intense images of great visual impact”, and it certainly is just that.

There’s no doubt that Aymeline looks wonderful, (especially in her side shot), while Simon effortlessly portrays the new Armani silhouette with it’s exaggerated volumes in a almost retro manner. The clothes look great within this type of editing and it you cannot argue that it emphasises Giorgio Armani’s idea of the autumn/winter 2012/13 collection reinterpreting the classic patterns of men’s fabrics, albeit with an added irony of course. However I do feel as if these images somewhat resemble shots from an editorial rather than an ad campaign, even more so with the addition of one full colour shot amongst the black and white ones. I’m sure it will grow on me but even though I shouldn’t compare the two, Emporio Armani’s advertising campaign still comes out on top…for now.
