Check out the images from the Marchesa Spring/Summer 2013 womenswear show at New York Fashion Week, with some of my key notes on colours and influences below.

Marchesa transported us to fairytale set in India for their Spring/Summer 2013 collection, where the Princess, (originally from New York) shocked the land with her modification of the traditional Sari, and started a new trend. The opulent colour palette comprised of jewel tones such as ruby, jasper, gold, amethyst, aubergine and navy followed by neutral tones of white, silver, nude, while the primary focus was on the western take on traditional wear, with the beautiful wrapping and draping of silk adorned with gilded details, adding further opulence to the rich collection. Tunic styled tops shimmered with embellished hems or swayed with fringes and were coupled with slim cropped trousers, elaborate gilded leggings similar to the Kurta style were paired with a flowing, thigh high split chiffon gowns, while the exquisite layered tulle masterpieces with a brocade-like armour,  and one shoulder silk evening gowns with ornate embroideries and trims, were fit for Queen!
