BESOTTED WITH BOTTEGA VENETA

In case you missed my string of tweets a few months back (before I took a twitter break), both I and my inner Elven mage have a slight infatuation with Bottega Veneta’s much coveted spring/summer menswear line.

The collection boasts beautiful suede and silk garments, layered with cropped trousers and hi top boots, all in weathered rustic tones which convey both a seasonal informality and something rather otherworldly. Sadly being completely out of my poor homme price range, I can only really take influence from the garments, styling and colour palette but I thought I would share some of my favourite pieces that have influenced my SS13 wardrobe this year.

MY 2013 BAFTA AWARDS BEST DRESSED!

I mentioned on twitter yesterday thta I haven’t really been “WOWed” by anything on red-carpet this year. Back in 2012 I was floored right from the get go by Tilda Swinton’s Haider Ackermann gown at the Golden Globes, and Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe at the MET Gala, but everything I’ve come across this year seems somewhat”safe” and boring.

That being said, there were two standouts at the BAFTA awards yesterday, that sparked my red carpet interest once again. If you haven’t guessed from my sketches who these two stunners were and what they were wearing, then take a look below.

COVER: DOUGLAS BOOTH BY BRUCE WEBER, VMAN #29, SPRING/SUMMER 2013

FINALLY a Men’s cover!

The prettiest male model around, Douglas Booth takes on the role of a “New School Romeo” (no doubt a reference to his role in the new 2013 film adaption of Romeo and Juliet), on the Bruce Weber lensed cover of VMan #29, Spring/Summer 2013.

Although I’m not opposed to black and white covers in spring (as as almost perfect as his face is), I’m not too keen on the shot, especially after seeing how great the accompanying editorial is. Douglas may be going for “New School”, but it’s definately “Old SKOOL” Romeo he’s channeling here, with a distinct air of Leonardo Di Caprio a la Baz Luhrmann on one end, and a whiff of Leonard Whiting on the other.

Check it out.

MICROSOFT MAKES ME HATE 2013 & BREAKDOWN IN TEARS WITH THEIR “CHILD OF THE 90S” VIDEO

It’s bad enough that the “90s” are considered “vintage”, but yesterday, while still being in constant denial about turning 27 next week and having nothing to show for it, I began searching through multiple YouTube videos for trailers, music pieces and fan-made AMVs of the Final Fantasy series and came across something that nearly sent me over the edge – “Final Fantasy X – Retro Video Game Commercial.” RETRO!?! Are you f*cking kidding me?! That game was released in 2001! Then I realised, it had been 12 YEARS since the last installment of the Final Fantasy franchise under Square, (before it became the soulless Square-Enix).

So after having a major FML moment, and while my already collapsed world crumbled into dust having come to terms with becoming a has-been, (I can’t even work a PS3), I clicked on the Final Fantasy X Ending Movie video to reminiscence about the “days of yore”, only to have my moment of “retro” nostalgia interrupted by a 1 minute and 41 second, “un-skippable” advertisement by Microsoft that basically reduced me to a blubbering hot mess, even before being able to view the movie that was meant to reduced me to a blubbering hot mess – An advert about the 90s!

If you’re a member of generation Y such as myself, get the tissues ready, draw the curtains and continue reading to re-live the golden days when everything was just perfect, and troubles melted like lemon drops…or in my case, cherry drops and Murray mints *weeps*.

CHIRAG’S FIRST LANVIN …(IT’S MINE BITCHES!)

2012 was sadly a dry year when it came to buying beautiful things. But you know the saying, “all good things come to those who wait”, well that pretty much sums up what happened two days ago, when I suddenly and unexplainably awoke at 8am and decided to surf the Mr Porter 80% off sale on my mobile phone looking for a new everyday leather tote/satchel, only to bag (forgive me), this A+MAZING, ordained by the Gods and anointed by the holy ones, Leather Patchwork Men’s Holdall by Lanvin.

I LOVE MY MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA FOR H&M WOOL COAT!

The main item I’ve wanted from the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection since it’s launch, is now MINE! And I LOVE IT!

This gorgeous camel coloured wool coat is a re-edition of similar garment from Maison Martin Magiela’s Autumn/Winter 2012/13 men’s collection. Aside of the major difference in price, this re-edition features inverted lapels and visible white stitching, both of which add a quirky and unique twist to an otherwise simple double breasted coat.

Although cut straight and not tapered, it’s very snug around my chest and shoulders, but that’s more to do with my ever-changing build than the coat, and in all honestly I actually don’t think I would have felt too comfortable wearing a size up.

Styled above with Topman Navy Coated Twisted Jeans, and a Navy Ribbed H&M Zip Roll Neck Jumper.
