PHOTOGRAPHY: “AUSTRALIA” BY MARK SEGAL

More often than not when a fashion shoot takes place within a natural environment, the photographer (or to be fair, the Art Director), doesn’t quite manage to capture that intrinsic synergy between the subject & their surroundings or show it within the final product, despite having fulfilled the creative brief & concept by producing a set of eye-catching images of this seasons finest. For me personally, that connection means everything.

Marc Segal marries Man (in this case Jarrod Scott) & Land (in this case his homeland Australia) so perfectly, that our slightly primitive & rather handsome model literally becomes one with the rugged landscape in the Australia editorial featured in the latest Vogue Hommes International, Spring/Summer 2014.

PHOTOGRAPHY: “A DELICATE BALANCE” BY RYAN MCGINLEY, T – THE NEW YORK TIMES STYLE MAGAZINE, WINTER 2012

Usually we’re accustomed to seeing images of model of the moment Karlie Kloss, and just seeing “Karlie Kloss” along with whatever fabulous designer apparel she sports on her designer frame. But A Delicate Balance by Ryan McGinley is somewhat different. My eye is still fixed upon Karlie, but it’s wandering all over the image, from the giant crater nestled between the twin volcanic peaks of Masaya and Nindirí, the edge of which the brave model sits upon on the cover above, to conveying a modern Botticelli’s Venus atop of Lake Nicaragua, with the island of Ometepe in the distance while clad in Balenciaga.

Yes Karlie is breathtakingly gorgeous, but it’s seems she has met her match with the scenery of Nicaragua, or rather, McGinley has captured the perfect balance between a natural beauty and natures beauty.

Check out the beautifully shot editorial, featured in T – The New York Times Style Magazine with Karlie wearing the likes of Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Chloe in the most awe inspiring places.

PHOTOGRAPHY: MELANCHOLIA BY LINA SCHEYNIUS

There’s a wonderful fragility that runs through the work of photographer Lina Scheynius, and her latest shoot “Melancholia” with model Ruby Aldridge publicises both that and the effects of such despondency – The confinement to a room, the absence of natural light, the glazed eyes, the lie ins and most of all, solitude. It’s both intimate, yet slightly uncomfortable to be shown something that people refrain from talking about in reality.

Check out the beautifully shot story here.

PHOTOGRAPHY: “A HAZY SHADE OF WINTER” BY ENRIQUE BADULESCU

I’m sure we’ve all seen this concept executed a million times now – the typical boho blonde with her floral wreath adorning her head, posing in the most nonchalant way in a field somewhere. But Enrique Badulescu’s shoot sees the subject wearing a more winter inspired wardrobe, with on trend floral prints, knitwear, lace, fur and embellishments, all blanketed with a wonderfully punchy, psychedelic concoction of purple, blue orange, yellow, red and pink colour.

Check it out.

PHOTOGRAPHY: THE CHARMED LIFE OF ELIZABETH OLSEN BY JEFF BARK

Despite being so sweet you would be at risk of contracting diabetes just by looking at the above image, it’s really nice to see Elizabeth Olsen in the spotlight for once.

This sugary sweet editorial featured in Bullett Magazine’s Fall 2012 issue, sees the actress and younger sister to the Olsen Twins, hide her blonde tresses under a candy floss coloured wig while donning a variety of feminine gowns and beaded dresses from the likes of Balmain, Marchesa, Chanel, Dior and Alexander McQueen, in a fairy tale setting that could only be described as Barbie’s interpretation of Narnia. Thankfully, Elizabeth’s composure and expression coupled with the severity of her bob add a nice savoury note to the overwhelming femininity.

PHOTOGRAPHY: LE NOIR, SUVI COPONEN BY MERT ALAS & MARCUS PIGGOTT

A wonderfully saturated, primary coloured backdrop mixed with the autumn/winter, on trend, Gothic-Amish like styling, is the approach Mert & Marcus took for this bewitching editorial for September’s Vogue Paris.

Model Suvi Coponen dons a variety of designers including Prada, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent and Haider Ackermann coupled with wide brimmed bowler hats, while swaying her arms around in a ritualistic manner, from the early hours of the day, right through to the night, the time a witches spell becomes that ever so much more potent.

PHOTOGRAPHY: THE METAL WINNER BY MIKAEL JANSSON

Dear Karlie,

Please come and join my gym and be my training buddy. We can spot each or you can just recline on the bench while I stand and drool.

The ever flawless Karlie Kloss gets her FIERCE on for the Mikael Jansson lensed editorial, “The Metal Winner” from Vogue Japan’s September issue. The impeccable styling by George Cortina combines chainmail, rouge lips, mixed metals and envious physiques. Think 80s Jennifer Beals in Flashdance crossed with a 21st century vampire queen who was sired in the middle ages sans the tackiness.

Check out the sizzling editorial here.

COVER: MALGOSIA BELA BY GREG KADEL, VOGUE SPAIN, AUGUST 2012

If there is one thing Malgosia Bela has that others would die for, (aside from the whole model “sha-bang”), it’s her presence. No matter how dressed or dolled up or down she is, there is something so captivating and mysterious about her that you’re immediately drawn in.

Check out the equally captivating Carretera Secundaria editorial lensed by photographer Greg Kadel, where the model dons a variety of A/W designer apparel including Balmain, Valentino, Prada, Proenza Schouler and more, in many different scenarios.
