COVER: SEAN O’PRY BY PABLO ARROYO, ELLE MAN MEXICO, JUNE 2013

Who knew a staple white tee & denim shirt could look so damn good!

One of my favourite models of the moment, Mr Sean O’Pry stars on the unconventional, minimal but eye-catching cover of Elle Man Mexico, June 2013.

Photographed by Pablo Arroyo, it’s refreshing to see something on the new-stand more “blue” than “blue steel”. The lighting, the off-beat pose and Sean’s complexion against the pale wood of the chair and washed denim shirt are altogether a visually stimulating combination. It’s natural, classic but forward in it’s composition and attitude. For some reason it immediately reminded me of this L’Officiel Hommes Cover by Johan Sandberg, but maybe it’s the chair/stool/unconventional/neutral/blue aspect.

COVER: BRUNA TENÓRIO BY GUI PAGANINI, ELLE BRAZIL, MARCH 2013

Looking sharp, sleek and sexy in an outfit from the Reinaldo Lourenço Autumn/Winter collection and retro parted waves, model Bruna Tenório covers the Gui Paganini lensed cover of Elle Brazil, March 2013.

COVER: NAOMI CAMPBELL BY THOMAS WHITESIDE, ELLE SERBIA, MARCH 2013

It may be a reprint from January, but the image of Naomi Campbell in Alexander McQueen hasn’t lost any of its allure, as the Thomas Whiteside lensed image has been use for the March 2013 cover of Elle Serbia.

I’m all for black and white images for spring covers, especially if they look as commanding and refined as this. The Queen in “McQueen” is truly a force to be reckoned with!

COVER: TAYLOR SWIFT BY CARTER SMITH, ELLE US, MARCH 2013

The petite “Princess of Pop”, Taylor Swift, goes all “60s mod with an edge” as she covers the latest issue of US Elle in a daring Louis Vuitton Sping/Summer 2013 dress.

As much as I’ve become sick to death of hearing her songs play on repeat at the gym, I really like the cover. It’s clean (considering the huge amount of text), fresh and screams spring. It’s typically Taylor’s style, but you can’t deny the little lady knows how to WERK bangs, smokey eyes and a short dress like a pro!

Check out the rest of the images from her Carter Smith lensed story below.

COVER: FRIDA GUSTAVSSON, MOA ÅBERG, THERES ALEXANDERSSON, OLIVER REMMETS ASKMAN, HANNA FRIDH & MABINTOU CESSAY BY CARL BENGTSSON, ELLE SWEDEN, FEBRUARY 2013

Hands down one of the best cover’s I have come across this year!

There’s a cause for celebration, (although I’m not sure what as my swedish is poor – 25 years ?) as photographer Carl Bengtsson captures models Frida Gustavsson, Hanna Fridh, Mabintou Ceesay, Moa Åberg, Theres Alexandersson and Olivia Remmets Askman, against a brilliant multicoloured paper floral backdrop for Elle Sweden’s February 2013 issue.

The above cover with Frida Gustavsson is faultless. I love the inclusion of the the red (Acne?) Biker jacket over the Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2013 gown. It frames the model and just lifts her away from the busy but beautiful set. Hats off to whoever designed it, it’s amazing and it’s actually something I would have done in the past.

Check out the other equally gorgeous covers here.

COVER: SCARLETT JOHANSSON BY RANKIN, ELLE UK, FEBRUARY 2013

I think it’s fair to say Scarlett Johansson has never looked as awkward as she does on this cover, lensed by the acclaimed Rankin.

The actress, dressed in Victoria Beckham Spring/Summer 2013 (which I love – minus the shoes and not on her),  is Elle UK’s February 2013 cover star, although you would be forgiven for thinking it should actually be Anja Rubik, with the model’s name being featured more prominently than hers.

The only real positive here are the colours – the combination of which I adore and have used in the past as have other magazine’s such as Wallpaper* – and the cleanliness of it all, which is almost ruined by the over the top use of typography and poor placement.

PIC O’THE DAY

“Jessica is the modern girl I imagine wearing my clothes. She’s powerful, sexy, clever, hot, talented and at the same time she’s really sweet and nice…She has it all.”
~ Olivier Rousteing ~

Even though I wasn’t a fan of her Elle January 2013 cover, Jessica Biel is triple WORK/WERK/WERQ-ing her stunning Balmain woven silk top, brocade skirt and lambskin clutch!

Even Olivier is spellbound by the hair whipping hotness!

COVER: JESSICA BIEL BY THOMAS WHITESIDE, ELLE US, JANUARY 2013

I’ve never really found Jessica Biel appealing in any way whatsoever, but as I’m trying to get back into “blogging mode”, I thought I may as well post and bitch critique in my own special way.

The badly styled actress seems to be channeling Carly Rae Jepsen on the Thomas Whiteside lensed cover of Elle US January 2013 leaving me with the conclusion that the only thing red hot here, is the background.

COVER: CAMERON DIAZ BY DAVID SLIJPER, ELLE UK, DECEMBER 2012

We’re used to seeing Cameron Diaz in more of a “cheery” fashion, but here she looks reserved, sombre and quietly elegant as she poses in front of a berry hued background on the David Slijper lensed cover for Elle UK’s December issue.

I actually like the cover, pink hues and that beautiful Chanel dress, despite the fact the actress doesn’t look as lively as usual. There’s an abundance of type as always, but the font is kept simple enough to not detract from the image.

Check out the subscribers cover, where the 40 year old actress (she’s looks like she’s in her 20s!), sports a luscious pink Christian Dior ensemble.

COVER: IZABEL GOULART BY EDUARDO REZENDE, ELLE BRAZIL, OCTOBER 2012

Only in Brazil can October look this HOT!

The stunning Izabel Goulart covers Elle Brazil’s October cover, in a white two piece and while sporting an array of gothic inspired jewellery. The contrast of the Eduardo Rezende lensed image and styling is wonderful, and I love the gradient and colours used on the masthead and main titles.

Aside from the perfection that is Izabel, I thank God that Elle went for a textured/stone background as opposed to the typical plain white canvas.

COVER: JESSIE J BY RANKIN, ELLE UK, NOVEMBER 2012

Having just put promotion for her debut album to rest, the beautiful Jessie J covers Elle UK’s upcoming November issue in an elaborate Dolce & Gabbana body suit.

The Laser Light singer has touted her work with Rankin as the “best shoot ever,” however from this cover I’m not so sure.  The pose and expression look somewhat uncomfortable and the proportion of her head and retouching of her beautiful face, compared to the rest of the her body, also seems a tad off.

I’m not a fan of the played-out bodysuit, but it is quintessentially a “Jessie” outfit which, as we know, she can easily pull off with that A+MAZING body of hers. I know Elle were going for an elegant, ethereal, sleeker and metallic theme but I would have liked to see something more dramatic and different for the cover, especially after seeing what she wore in the behind the scenes video which you can check out on Elle UK here.

Behind the scenes video/styling >>> Cover… I can’t wait to see the final Elie Saab gown image!
