THE 2012 “I WANT TO BE IN THAT ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN” AWARD

Why I’m dreaming of being a smart female in an advertising campaign I don’t know… #fail

Anyway, I originally began this blog to collate and critique fashion editorials and ad campaigns, having been someone who previously art directed a few over the past few years. So it’s only fitting that I should have this category in here to…just with a humorous twist of course…

The 2012 “I Want To Be In That Advertising Campaign Award” goes to…

COVER: ALINE WEBER BY MARTON PERLAKI, THE ROOM #16, FALL/WINTER 2012

Marton Perlaki photographs model Aline Weber in the clean and minimal cover for The Room Magazine, Issue 16.

Styled by Ali Toth and Aniko Virag, Aline’s unruly blonde bouffant, gorgeous eyes and over-sized navy coat are finished off, rather unusually, with a black painted nose, almost giving the impression of a skull, whilst retaining an air of minimal purity.

Me likely!

COVER: EUGENIA VOLODINA, HARPER’S BAZAAR SPAIN, NOVEMBER 2012

Eugenia Volodina strikes a pose in Prada in a fantastical mirrored collaged for a rather November’s Harper’s Bazaar Spain.

The surrealist theme is further enforced by the Salvador Dali quote, “It’s easy to recognize if a man has good taste: the carpet must match with the eyebrows” hidden along the side of the cover, which makes me wonder what mind boggling delights Eugenia’s editorial will hold.

Check out a stunning preview here.

COVER: ARTHUR GOSSE BY MATTHEW BROOKES, NUMÉRO HOMME #24, FALL/WINTER 2012

Clearly I’m having a de-saturated day today…

This sharp and rather futuristic cover of Numéro Homme #24 by photographer Matthew Brookes, sees model Arthur Gosse don a pair of Alexander McQueen visors that reflect the modern metropolis before him. The combination of a roll neck underneath a crisp buttoned white shirt and the geometry of power cables behind him only further enforces the underlying theme futurism theme,  and my love for it.

Sadly the accompanying editorial isn’t as exciting, so I decided not to post it.

AD CAMPAIGN: DIANE VON FURSTENBERG AUTUMN/WINTER 2012/13 BY CAMILLA AKRANS

It’s debatable whether a messy maned Arizona Muse is the right person to front the Autumn/Winter Diane Von Furstenberg campaign, but there is something about her which reminds me of a younger Diane…and also from these images, the girl certainly knows how to plug an accessory!

AD CAMPAIGN: VALENTINO AUTUMN/WINTER 2012/13 BY DEBORAH TURBERVILLE

Valentino take us to the “Jewel of Sicilian Baroque architecture”, the extremley opulent Palazzao Valguarner-Gargi in Palermo, Sicily for their Deborah Tuberville lensed Autumer/Winter campaign starring models Frida Gustavsson, Jac Jagaciak and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. And while the set may be fabulous in all its gilded glory, I can’t help but feel that the campaign has a whole fall flat due to the detached models.

AD CAMPAIGN: HERVÉ LEGÉR BY MAX AZRIA AUTUMN/WINTER 2012/13

Model Li Na Zhang dons her “bitch hold my ponytail” ponytail for the equestrian, fierce and feminine themed Autumn/Winter collection by Hervé Léger by Max Azria.

The campaign itself plays on the overall S&M theme of the collection through the severe lighting, architectural background and black and white production. And while the subtle movement and material of each garment reveals a hidden femininity to the images, Li Na’s attitude remains disciplined throughout, while her posture reflects that of a gladiator.

AD CAMPAIGN: GIVENCHY AUTUMN/WINTER 2012/13 BY MERT ALAS & MARCUS PIGGOTT

Instead of going for an elaborate set, special lighting or an extravagant location, Givenchy have spliced images together from their autumn winter campaign to create a hybrid model caught within an inter-dimensional musical euphoria – And oh does it work!

The clever campaign shot by duo Mert & Marcus sees models Stella Tennant, Joan Smalls, Stef van der Laan, Daniela Braga, Simone Nobili, Jarrod Scott and Rodrigo Braga intoxicated by the electronic beats resonating from the speakers around them in a car park. But to successfully translate this free movement into a still image, two different images of each model have been cut and pasted together creating an entirely fascinating perspective and what can only be described as a Givenchy “mutated model”.

Check out the rest of the campaign here.
