THAKOON WOMEN’S SPRING SUMMER 2013 – NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Loved the contrasts in colour, material and prints in this collection as well as the darker elements to something so spring-like!
Check out the images from the Thakoon Spring/Summer 2013 womenswear show at New York Fashion Week, with some of my key notes on colours and influences below.
Yet another romantic themed collection came courtesy of Thakoon, but this time nature’s glorious avian prints and silhouettes fluttered down the catwalk. The pastel like colour palette of ivory, china blue, coral, salmon, navy, cobalt and yellow conveyed a slight japanese influence, especially in context of the prints. The primary focus was on dresses and gowns with translucent interpolations, giving the effect butterflies were nesting on the body, printed peplum tops paired with lace skirts, cotton tunics with a patchwork of fabrics, hour glass shaped dresses emblazoned a hummingbird and cherry blossom motif trapped within a golden cage, which took a darker twist by the end of the show with the soft floral print trapped within stark black corset-like pieces resembling cages.
