THE 2012 SHOW-STOPPING RED CARPET GOWN AWARD

Posted on December 29, 2012

I kinda wish I had used Gwyneth in Tom Ford rather than Taylor Swift as the header graphic now…

Moving on, 2012 has a multitude of red carpet hits. High profile events such as the MET Gala, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival and of course The Oscars paved way for so many wonderful floor sweeping and sparkling designer gowns, that I could probably name 20 of my favourite looks in less than 20 seconds.

However as these are “Awards”, I’ve decided to stick to my 3 instead. So here are My Top 3 2012 Show-Stopping Red Carpet Gown Award beauties!

GWYNETH-PALTROW-TOM-FORD-OSCARS-2012

NO. 3 – Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Gwyneth Paltrow literally took my breath away in this stunning but simple Tom Ford gown and cape. Everything about this look screamed hollywood glamour. The only downside? When the cape came off halfway through the show, she went back to being a plain Jane.

KAROLINA-KURKOVA-RACHEL-ZOE-2012

NO. 2 – Karolina Kurkova in Custom Rachel Zoe

There’s was certainly nothing “plain” about this look!

Karolina Kurkova’s MET Gala appearance had all head’s turning as she litterally dazzled in this stunning 20’s inspired number courtesy of Rachel Zoe, complete with matching turban. Only someone as confident, svelte and statuesque as Karolina could have pulled this glamourous, attention grabbing look off with such ease.

TILDA-SWINTON-HAIDER-ACKERMANN-GOLDEN-GLOBES-2012

NO. 1 – Tilda Swinton In Haider Ackermann

My no.1 had to be none other than the living Goddess Tilda Swinton, in her knockout Haider Ackermann outfit which owned the red carpet at the Golden Globes. The pairing may have been predictable, but the overall look was so unconventional that literally nobody but Tilda could have pulled it off with such a commanding presence. I loved how her signature androgynous style wasn’t lost amongst the powder blue colour, sheer draping, figure hugging tailoring, and the Fred Leighton wrap-around floral cuffs, while her short bowie-esque quiffed hair and barely there makeup was the antithesis of everything around her.

Since that day, Ms Tilda Swinton has been my one true definition of FIERCE!
Special Shout-Out to Diane Kruger in her sparkly Vivienne Westwood gown!
