I’ve mentioned before that I’ve never really been a fan of backpacks – The majority of my “man-bag” collection is derived of totes, messenger bags and holdalls much to dismay of my arms and right shoulder – But as Marc Jacobs did last year, high street brand Topman have made me rethink my decision to exile the two strapped carrier from my life with this stunning and affordable black Woven Leather Backpack from their new Lux Collection.

Over the past few years having been exposed to a slew of higher end products and retailers, I’ve stopped buying bags from the affordable end of the high street. By no means do I intend that to come across as pompous in anyway, but as the quality of accessories has gone down drastically in the past few years and I would rather spend £80 – £600+ on a designer/vintage/high-end high street brand’s leather goods fully knowing it will age gracefully over the years and not wither, date and die after a few months. That being said, Topman’s new highly appealing Lux Collection seems to offer the lavish designer aesthetic through understated staples in mixes of mohair, leather or suede at an understandably higher, (but still affordable) price point, which if successful could follow in the footsteps of H&M’s higher end ventures, COS and & Other Stories and potentially become a new independent luxe brand itself.

In the meantime, I have a feeling that Monsieur Lanvin, Master Louis Vuitton and Mr Marc By Marc Jacobs will welcome this beautifully interlaced leather detailed rucksack into my man bag fold with open arms and air kisses.

Available for £80 online from Topman.
