VIVIENNE WESTWOOD WOMEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2013 – PARIS FASHION WEEK
Posted on November 15, 2012
Clearly I’ve been watching too much “Once Upon A Time” as all I could see when looking at this collection were fairytale characters!
Check out the images from the Vivienne Westwood Spring/Summer 2013 Womenswear show at Paris Fashion Week, with some of my key notes on colours and influences below.
You can always rely on Vivienne Westwood to bring a bit of theatre to the catwalk with their trademark eccentric style, and her “Climate Revolution” titled, baroque meets punk princess Spring/Summer 2013 showing was that and so much more. The colour palette was subdued and almost apocalyptic with hues of red, orange, black, gold, hazy pinks, muddy greens, steel, navy, nude and cloud, while the primary focus was on the insect prints and details, tapestry style printed hourglass dresses which almost carried an eastern edge, a “Red Riding Hood” -esque cape, exaggerated turbans, a plethora of corsets, bustiers and ballgowns, exaggerated shoulders with pleated arms, silk ruffled dresses, bejewelled gowns, t-shirts with the words “climate revolution” sprawled across them and squiggle graphics applied to footwear, all of which was carried off by a variety of models with painted heart shaped faces, a creative and modern take on the hairstyles of the late 1700s and in true Westwood style, a crown.
